QUAKERTOWN, Pennsylvania, November 28, 2011—Synergis Engineering Design Solutions, a division of Synergis Technologies, Inc., has announced the return of the two student design competitions for secondary school students in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
To further promote engineering design in schools and recognize students for their design talents and skills, Synergis created two competitions. The Synergis Architectural Design Competition focuses on net-zero energy buildings. Students will design a community center to be as energy efficient or producing as possible. Creativity is built in with very few requirements for the space so students will be able to design with their own interests in mind. The Synergis-F1 Design Competition follows the Pennsylvania F1 rules to design a CO2 powered model racing car.

All entries for the competitions must be in digital format and received at Synergis’ headquarters by April 1, 2012. The top three designs will be put to public vote on Synergis Educators Community for Engineering and Design Facebook page. For each design competition, the first place team will win $1000 and the second place, $500. The winning teams will be invited to present and display their designs during Synergis University on May 16, 2012.

“Last year we launched these competitions as a way to foster the growth of design in schools, and to recognize the schools and students involved in design innovation,” said Kristen Tomasic, Vice President, Synergis Engineering Design Solutions. “We had 18 teams participate last year, and invited the winners from the competitions to attend Synergis University, where they received awards, participated in industry sessions, and met engineers to hear first-hand what they are learning to stay ahead in their positions. This year we hope to see more schools involved.”
