When working with AutoCAD Electrical the ribbon is much easier to navigate as compared to standard AutoCAD. The main reason for this is how it is organized based on the subject you are working on. For example, when you are working on a schematic drawing you will be on the schematic ribbon, and when you want to run a report you will be on the reports ribbon. However, there are times when you are working on a schematic drawing, but often need a tool from the project ribbon. To avoid having to switch to the project ribbon you should add the commonly used tool to the quick access toolbar.
The quick access toolbar sits at the top of the ribbon menus. The quick access toolbar has an option for you to add and remove default tools by checking the option on, but you can also add any tool from the ribbons too. To do this you right-click over the tool you want to add, and select the “Add to Quick Access Toolbar” option. An example of this is when working on a schematic drawing in AutoCAD Electrical the utilities tool is often needed, and since it is located on the project ribbon you have to switch to the project ribbon. After you are done using the tool you have to then switch back to the schematic ribbon. Adding this tool to the quick access toolbar will save time, and frustration. To do this you right-click on the utilities tool and select the “Add to Quick Access Toolbar” option:
Now the tool is available in the quick access toolbar:
Now you can stay on the schematic ribbon whenever you need this tool. Only add the tools you use often from other ribbons. Adding too many tools to the quick access toolbar can make it too confusing which will defeat the reasons for adding them. If you happen to have more tools than can fit in its default location there is an option to move the quick access toolbar below the ribbon.
