Many companies have certain ways of doing things in their CAD application. Sometimes communicating how that’s accomplished can be a challenge in itself. How do you communicate a CAD workflow to a new (or existing) CAD user? Do you spend time writing and taking screen shots to document your workflow? Did you invest in 3rd party video capturing software and try to document it? Have you ever looked at the Autodesk Screencast application to document your workflows?
Autodesk Screencast is a free application that allows you to document your workflow via video and then share it with your CAD community or others. This application has the ability to capture sounds, CAD commands/menu selections, and keystrokes to better assist in your training needs. It supports AutoCAD/AutoCAD Vertical applications, Inventor, Revit, Vault, Fusion 360, Navisworks, 3D Max, and other 3rd party applications.
To get started, simply download the application and install it. Next launch the application, log in using your Autodesk Account ID, and select the record button to start documenting your workflow. By default the recording is based on the active window.
When completed, you simply stop the recording and preview (or edit) it prior to publishing it to the cloud.
Once you elect to save and upload your recording, you will document what the recording is and how you want to share it (everyone/only me/direct link).
From there the Autodesk servers will take over and publish the information to the (Autodesk) cloud. After the screencast is completed you will receive an email indicating the upload is complete.
Although this tool is useful in creating personalized training material for your organization, the Autodesk Screencast site already has numerous recordings that were created by others and shared. Check them out and review the FAQs about Screencast for additional information.
