whatssocoolinmanufacturingIn an effort to raise awareness of manufacturing careers among young people, some Lehigh Valley organizations have come together to offer a contest for students to create short videos about a local manufacturer.  Lehigh Valley Skill Up is an organization sponsored by the Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC), Da Vinci Science Center (DSC), Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board, and Lehigh Career and Technical Institute.  It is a federally and state-funded program that focuses on the manufacturing industry in the Lehigh Valley area that aims in engaging students in manufacturing education and careers.
For this contest, 17 schools were each matched up to a local manufacturer to learn more about their design and production process.  The student teams created videos to show “what’s so cool about manufacturing?”  The winner was presented an award on February 27 at the Da Vinci Science Center.  This year’s winning team, from Whitehall-Coplay School District worked with Atlas Machining and Welding, Inc.  Check out their video below.
