Project Navigator: Empowering your Elements Part II
Author: Bill Knittle, Synergis Building Solutions Engineer
Type: PDF document
Date: 04-02-08
Description: In my previous article I overlooked one small technical issue. This process only works in Architectural Desktop (ADT) 2007 and AutoCAD Architecture (ACA) 2008. AutoCAD 2007 introduced the External References Palette which replaced the obsolete External References dialog box of previous versions of AutoCAD and ADT. This upgrade included the lower pane which allows users to view a preview or property details of an external reference. Therefore, this workflow will not work in ADT versions 06 and earlier.

Description: Rule of thumb in CAD is to find redundancy wherever possible. Less is more. With that in mind, have you ever had to design a dormitory, hotel, or hospital? In many cases, all three design types have a common denominator, the typical room. Enter the Element. In Part I of this series I will focus on the concepts and workflows to accomplish these types of projects. There, I said it. To really appreciate the power of this process, you must use the Drawing Management System of AutoCAD Architecture.

Data Linking in Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2006

Description: Many firms create, compile and edit data in spreadsheets and databases but they also present the same data in AutoCAD drawings. The typical existing process and workflow is that a facility manager or space planner will enter the data in a spreadsheet and then hand that off to a CAD Technician to re-enter the same data in the appropriate AutoCAD drawing. We’ll see that we can eliminate this duplication of effort by using fields in Autodesk Architectural Desktop (ADT) that link to and present the information from the database as AutoCAD text, tables or block attributes.

Creating Custom Tags in Autodesk Architectural Desktop & Autodesk Building Systems the Easy Way
Author: Peter Gehring, Synergis Director of Building & Infrastructure Solutions and Autodesk Architectural Desktop Certified Expert
Type: On demand webcast
Date: October 10, 2005
Details: In the past, custom tags creation was a painful process that yielded unsuccessful results if you neglected certain steps. Today in Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2006 and Autodesk Building Systems 2006, the process is actually pleasant. With an existing Property Set created, the new Define Schedule Tag command actually creates the tag's MVBlock definition and the underlying AutoCAD block (with attributes) from simple text and geometry. Dragging the multiview block to a tool palette creates the custom tag command.
