Customer Success Story
Leading Engineering, Architect and Land Surveying Firm, Wink Incorporated, Adopts Synergis Adept for Enterprise-Wide Data and Product Lifecycle Management
Whether they are managing multi-construction projects for high profile external customers as ChevronTexaco, ExxonMobil, Shell and Six Flags, or smaller projects for local businesses, Wink Incorporated ( www.winkinc.com ) maintains unsurpassed professional accountability by zeroing in on the details of project data. In the course of executing more than 800 jobs yearly, Wink found that managing data manually was no longer an option. The company implemented Synergis Adept Electronic Document Management (EDM) software to allow for control and accessibility of this project data. Adept software tracks data not only for external customers, but for internal clients as well, assisting in data management for Wink's Engineering Design and Drafting and Business Development departments. Now one EDM system serves everyone who works on or accesses documents related to Wink's project workload stream throughout the year.
Wink realized that to service its external clients, it had to create the best possible internal business processes for managing data. Good data management must be organized, secure and controlled. After successfully using Adept for two years, Wink continues to extend its reach. Using Adept's built-in ability to connect remote sites, executive managers at branch offices can easily access the company's central database and find accurate project data faster.
"Prior to Adept, the Engineering and Design Drafting departments had no consistent system for filing information," explained Feemster. "Each user had the freedom to create his or her own filing structure in Windows, which in turn made it difficult for others to find the file. With Adept, we save a great deal of time and expense because we can locate files in seconds."
Perhaps the single most significant process improvement that has resulted from implementing Adept has been the elimination of the time-intensive and costly operation to "closeout" a project upon completion.
"Closing-out a project requires that we gather all project deliverables and return them to the client in one complete package," explained Feemster. "Instead of searching through hundreds of directories for the appropriate files, with Adept we now search by Wink Job Number. In one operation, all correspondence, calculations, drawings and other project-related data is collected and displayed at once."
